A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)
Freddy Krueger wants to get to know the kids of the parents who killed him in a lynch mob. In their dreams. With his knife glove. Directed by Wes Craven.
One of the seminal slasher films of the 80s, I had resisted the entire series for a long time. In middle school, my best friend was obsessed with the films, and so it was always a challenge to avoid watching them, as he would almost always watch them. But I finally decided to give it a view, especially as I've come to hold horror films in a somewhat different regard.
The film is still entertaining, and holds up fairly well (especially compared to some of its brethren). Some of the effects still look great, while others show their age, and the same can be said of the performances. But it's still entertaining, and that's really all you need. It also has Johnny Depp in his feature film debut, and it's also credited as being the saving grace for New Line Cinema productions (The House that Freddy Built).
