Robocop (1986)*

Half man. Half machine. All cop. Also, all satire. Directed by Paul Verhoeven.

Verhoeven's first major American production still holds up well. It's themes of corporatism run amok and technology vs. man are even more relevant than ever. And the fact that it's making these great points and is still an incredibly entertaining film is just icing on the cake. I don't think anyone has ever complained about Verhoeven's movies being boring. Add in some terrific performances, especially by the villains, and you've got a great film.
