The Party (1968)*
If you've ever been to a wilder party... you're under arrest. Peter Sellers crashes (mildly) a swanky Hollywood party. Antics ensue. Directed by Blake Edwards.
Peter Sellers reteamed with Blake Edwards for this, their only non-Pink Panther film. Sellers plays a clumsy Indian actor who through a mistake is invited to a Hollywood party (instead of being banned from ever working again in Hollywood). His clumsy antics turn the party on its head, but he ends up showing most people a good time (and getting the cute French girl!).
Most of the action is improvised, allowing Sellers much of the room he needed to really spread his wings. The physical gags are expertly timed, and the picture moves along at a pretty good clip. The subplot of the drunken waiter is also great, especially as it criss-crosses the main plot with Sellers. The swinging sixties house where they have the party is a real treat to view, with its wacky architecture and crazy furniture.
