Lifeboat (1944)*

A random assortment of people who survive a U-Boat sinking their ship are adrift in the Atlantic. Tensions flare, drama occurs. Directed by Alfred Hitchcock.

One of the lesser Hitchcock's, but still interesting. Keeping all of the action in one place with 8 characters can be a bit of a challenge (it's almost a forerunner to "Rope" in that sense). Hitchcock actually caught a lot of flak when the movie came out because one of the only sea-competent characters is a German U-Boat crewman (revealed to be the captain) who sank their ship in the first place. I think this a rather flimsy argument, as the German, while being an able seaman, is not a positive character.

The majority of conflict comes between the different classes within the boat. Slowly tensions build between the characters as they are kept in confined space with each other. There are certainly times where the film drags, but overall it's not terrible. Not one of the greatest of Hitchcock's, but certainly interesting.
